How much do seamless gutters cost?

Short answer

Seamless gutters cost about $1,984 for the 200 linear feet that covers a typical 2,000 square foot home, according to This Old House's seamless gutter cost guide (October 13, 2026), which prices aluminum at $7 per linear foot installed and vinyl at $4. Bob Vila's gutter guard guide (November 28, 2023) gives a seamless range of $652 to $1,720. The same This Old House that publishes $1,984 puts a 200-foot gutter installation at $3,200 on its general installation guide, updated four days earlier.

What it costs, by material

This Old House prices seamless gutters per linear foot with installation included:

Material Per linear foot 200 linear feet
Vinyl $4 $800
Aluminum $7 $1,400
Galvanised steel $9 $1,800
Copper $20 $4,000
Zinc $40 $8,000

Their headline average across materials is $1,984 for 200 feet, and their size table runs $992 at 100 feet, $1,488 at 150, $1,984 at 200, $2,480 at 250 and $2,976 or more at 300.

A small inconsistency, left as published. The table says aluminum is $7 per foot. The same page's text says most homeowners use aluminum "which typically costs $6.50 per linear foot." Fifty cents, on one page. We are using $7 because that is the figure in the table the totals are built from.

The contradiction worth knowing about

The same publisher, on its general gutter installation guide updated four days earlier, puts 200 linear feet at $3,200.

This Old House page Updated 200 linear feet
Seamless gutter cost 13 October 2026 $1,984
Gutter installation cost 9 October 2026 $3,200

$1,216 apart by our subtraction, for the same length of gutter, from the same source, in the same week. A third This Old House page gives $3,361 for the same 200 feet, which our cost per linear foot page adds to the pile.

What makes it stranger is the direction. That same installation guide says seamless gutters cost more upfront than sectional, because they are custom-cut on site. Bob Vila backs that up with labor rates: sectional $2 to $6 per foot, seamless $3 to $10. So seamless should sit above a general average, not $1,216 below it.

Our reconstruction, marked as ours

Neither page explains the other, so this is our reading.

Divide the $3,200 by 200 feet and you get $16 per foot. On This Old House's own seamless table, $16 lands between galvanised steel at $9 and copper at $20. It is more than twice what aluminum costs, and aluminum is what the same page says most homeowners actually buy.

So the $3,200 is not the price of a normal seamless job. It is an average over a material mix that includes copper and wood, which the installation guide prices up to $29 per foot. Very few individual buyers are that average.

The cross-check that convinced us. This Old House says seamless labor runs about $5 per linear foot. Subtract that from the $7 aluminum figure and the material is $2 per foot. On a different This Old House page, their copper gutters guide, aluminum material is given independently as $2 to $3 per linear foot. Two pages, different tables, same answer. The $7 figure holds up under its own arithmetic.

And the second publisher agrees. Bob Vila's seamless band of $652 to $1,720 sits just below $1,984 and nowhere near $3,200. Their 200-foot table, covering all gutter types, is $1,000 to $3,000. Note that Bob Vila's seamless figure is printed as "$652 to $,1,720" with a stray comma; we read it as $1,720 and are telling you so rather than silently correcting it.

Our conclusion. For an aluminum seamless job on a 2,000 square foot house, budget around $1,400 to $2,000. Treat $3,200 as what you pay if you are buying copper or zinc, or if your roofline is genuinely difficult.

What drives your own number

  • Labor is most of it. About $5 of the $7 aluminum foot is labor, or roughly $70 an hour. Seamless gutters are measured, cut and sealed on site, which This Old House describes in detail from one of their own projects: measuring from the rake board to each inside corner, cutting to those exact dimensions, crimping end caps and sealing each joint.
  • Height. Taller homes mean more risk, more equipment and slower work.
  • What is behind the gutters. This Old House notes from their own renovation that rotted fascia, soffit damage and earlier bad repairs all change the scope. None of that is in a per-foot quote.
  • Footage. The rule of thumb on both sources: roughly 100 linear feet per 1,000 square feet of house.

Is seamless worth it over sectional

The case for seamless is fewer joints, and joints are where gutters leak. Sectional gutters are riveted and caulked at the seams, and that caulk dries out.

The case against is what happens when a seamless run does fail. Our repair page covers this: This Old House prices a seamless repair at $125 to $250 against $100 to $225 for sectional, because a seamless run is replaced in lengths rather than patched at a joint.

Our arithmetic, marked as ours. That is a $25 premium per repair, against a labor premium of $1 to $4 per foot at installation, which on 200 feet is $200 to $800. The repair difference will not catch up with that gap in any realistic number of repairs. If seamless is worth buying, it is because it leaks less often, not because the repairs are cheaper.
